Skydiving & the Coronavirus

Recently, many businesses – both voluntarily and mandated – have temporarily put their operations on hold to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). And like these businesses (and many of you) have been doing throughout the past few days and weeks, we also have been closely monitoring this viral outbreak.

As skydiving is a sport that is inherently dangerous, safety is our top priority – in every situation, no matter the circumstance — with all of our gear, training and alike. That said, the safety and health of our customers is at the forefront of everything we do and every decision we make.

For all jumpers, staff, family, friends and the community, we do not want to foster an environment for this to potentially spread to you or anyone you might come in contact with.

Separately, tandem skydiving is by nature a close contact sport. Aside from checking in, signing your waiver, and the paperwork stuff, there’s the following:

  • Dropzone staff has to harness you for your jump
  • During the flight to altitude, you will be within inches of many people in the plane – sometimes up to 16 other people
  • During your tandem skydive, you will be harnessed directly to your Tandem Instructor for the duration of the skydive

Due to all of these reasons and more, we’ve made the decision to suspend our operations through April 3rd to protect the health and safety of our customers, coworkers, and the community.

Tips to stay safe during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak

We want you to stay healthy and safe. Also, knowledge is power, as they say. So, educate yourself — know how it spreads, and do what you can to avoid being exposed to the virus.

Here are some of the CDC’s recommendations to protect yourself:

  1. Clean your hands often and avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
  2. Avoid close contact with both 1) anyone who is sick and 2) others in your community. This will help avoid spreading the sickness throughout your community.
  3. Stay home if you’re sick unless you need medical care.
  4. Cover any coughs and sneezes (and use a tissue or the inside of your elbow).
  5. If you’re sick, wear a face mask.
  6. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces – daily.

Have questions or want to know more? You can find more detailed information on the CDC website here.
